So expect the heavy pour of rain can bring a lot into your moods and worst of all, it can even ruin your day for not finding that perfect dress to match.

Being cooped up in a house on a rainy day is no fun for children or caregivers. This article provides some ideas to make a rainy day fun.

Children can be a handful especially on a rainy day. Just because it is dreary outside doesn't mean it has to be dreary inside.

Activities Young Children Enjoy

Young children are easily stimulated and are more likely to enjoy an activity when a caregiver does it with them. For the younger crowd physical activity works wonders. Putting on a compact disc (CD) or just turning on the radio will make children get up and dance. Try to teach children the chicken dance or the hokey-pokey.

Another activity for youngsters is dress-up. This allows the children to use their imaginations to pretend to be someone they are not. Some popular choices are princesses and pirates.

Some sit-down activities includes puzzles. Not too challenging of a puzzle but one that utilizes the minds of children – large piece puzzles and/or life-size puzzles that are the size of an average three-year-old.

Another sit-down activity is games. Hi Ho! Cherry-O and Chutes N Ladders® are not only fun games but games that teach children basic skills like numbers and colors.

Children love to build and create new things. They can do this with Duplo legos®, wooden blocks and Lincoln Logs®. See which child can build the tallest tower.

Games for Older Children

Older children can get bored easily and/or be “too cool” to do kid activities.

Besides doing activities such as crafts, painting, playing games or making puzzles the older children can do more cool things to do.

For the studious children, they can read a book or write and star in their own plays. These children may also want to help the younger children. Allow them to do this!

For children who want to be active, they can rearrange their rooms. These children can also help younger children by giving them piggy back or horsey rides. If an interactive game system is available, have the children play baseball or bowling. It's just like playing an actual game!

Sedentary children will enjoy a movie. If it's really pouring outside and the rain will be an all-day event, the children may enjoy having a theme day such as “Pajama and Movie Day.”

Older children can also bake cupcakes and serve them as a treat to the rest of the children. Of course, adult supervision while baking should be required.

Children can be easily bored and caregivers can easily become frustrated or stressed while trying to provide enjoyment for the children. Planning games and activities that appeal to both younger and older children will help ease frustrations and make the rainy day outside sunny inside!
